Detention

South Gallery, California College of Arts and Crafts
March 2004

A solo installation and performance using drawings done by myself, my classmates and my teachers. Detention slips were distributed to hundreds of students and faculty for various offenses (jaywalking, smoking near doorways, talking during class); freestanding signs directed them towards the "detention" gallery, the site of the installation, where their detentions were recorded. Detainees were instructed to sit in the schooldesk and ponder the blank wall. The wallpapering of the detention room was a testement to the volume of drawings produced by the CCAC community.

My thanks to: (hanging committee) Emily Riley, Qarly Canant, Jessika Trepper, (artists) Angel Oloshove, Angela Brown, Angela Milash, Aurora Crispin, Charlize Moon, Daniel Lewis, Dave Muller, Emily Riley, Gaylan Mckeown, Geoffrey Vigneron, Georgia-May Frankenberg, Janis Anton, Jay Nelson, Jennifer Fuller, Jessika Trepper, Kyle Mock, Leslie Wilkes, Mark, Matt, Rachel Kaye, Rose Anne Raphael, Ryan, Scott Manning, Tiffany Dow, Tiffany Turrill, Vaughn Barker, Walter

The wallpapering was using drawings primarily by other artists, though a few are actually mine. The installation was to function conceptually with or without the inclusion of my own drawings. Because the first question everyone asked was "which drawings are your's," however, I will point them out: mouseover an image to highlighted my pieces.
