"The portrait I recieved from Dax - in exchange for the fresh fruit I sell at the farmers market - was I'd have to say an unfair trade. I should have given him more fruit for the drawing ... he is really talented. So... I was pretty tired from working all day and then to have my face drawn minus a scab on the skin was a plus. I dig the portrait and the artist. Thank you." |

DeborahDrawn July 4th, 2005 in San Francisco, CA. Portrait resides with the subject's mother, Queen Creek, AZ. "Myself being an artist, I can appreciate art. I can appreciate the fine scribbles, the paint blotches, and then the dull and boring landscapes. Walking along the Wharf in San Francisco, which was already heaven in itself (Ever since I was eight, i've sworn I will live in SF) was great, because of the forms of art. Handmade Jewelry here, Charachter sketches there. Those always amuse me. But then, as if out of no where, was a standup of GREAT, Almost perfect (To me atleast. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, although im sure most would agree with me) sketches. Using simply colored paper and a beeswax sketch pencil, sketches of people I could clearly recognize sat in my face. I was amazed and told my mother to stop walking. Then, as well, was a beautiful lady, being sketched at an angle. Surely these sketches couldn't have came from such a person as to be on a street. I mean, these things deserved to be sold in a high fashion building somewhere. But sure enough, I l!ook down, and the beauty that sat in front of me, was being exactly mirrored onto the paper. I knew then and there, I was going to be drawn. It wasn't quite my idea, but when my mother saw the work, she 'NEEDED' one of me. I was completely scared. Being chubby as hell, with bad skin from ARIZONA, I knew that the exact replica drawing of me would just turn out horrible. So, there I sat, in front of A GORGEOUS GUY mind you, nervous as hell from just being in the presence of someone so talented and attractive, worried of how I looked. I sat stiil, as much as I could with the wind blowing my hair in my eyes, and stared at the bolt on the back of another vendors chair. Everyone commented how I never smiled, but trust me, freezing your ass off in san francisco, being in the presence of an almost perfect artist and person, and worried that you'll have even sketched eveidence that you aren't the hottest thing since sliced bread, would make your smile a little rigid, too. So, sure e!nough, after letting my eyes stray on someone I knew CLEARLY was out of my league, and probably (Just because they always are) not into me just because of a vagina, my quickly drawn portrait sat in my hands. For once, I felt not so ugly. If this drawing is what I even 1/10 looked like in real life, then I thought maybe I didn't look so bad after all. Either that, or Dax was really nice. Either way, if it didn't seem stalkerish, I'd have Dax draw every single thing I could lay my eyes on. Picaso, Dali, Van Gogh....Have nothing on the true, living talent of Dax." |

"After first seeing Dax's band Corpus Callosum play at Barefoot Coffee not too long ago, I took a short meander around their website and clicked on Dax's art link. And I looked. And I oooohd. And I awwwd. And me thinks that it'd be nice to have a wonderful artist like himself bestow the honor upon me and draw a portrait. Of myself. It was wonderful. Period. Well, except the fact that the sun was painfully reflecting off the cement, causing me to squint the entire time. But wonderful Dax here looked past that disability and drew me with normal eyes. Not that my eyes are boring. Or that he brings normalcy to an otherwise interesting situation." |

???Found on February 13th, 2005. Portrait now resides with Alden, San Francisco, CA. "So...I was walking to work today and something on the sidewalk caught my eye. I stopped, turned around, and picked it up. It was one of your portraits and, at risk of sounding distressingly corny, it made my day. Although i'm sure its original recipient is sad to have lost it, I have to say that I am very glad they did as it will now be living with me. For your records..it is a double portrait with nothing written on the back. A girl with a hoop earring looks to the right of the image as a young bloke with a sideways hat looks at you the artist. Remember it? Keep up the random acts of portraiture...you have a good thing going." |

ErinDrawn on December 5th, 2004, Cupertino, CA. Portrait resides with the subject, travelling. "The beauty was not to have a portrait of myself, but to keep a piece of his artwork. Being drawn is still an uneasy experience to me because, i suppose, usually i am the artist. Nobody asks to draw me; nobody asks permission, that is. It doesn't matter to me how long i have to hold still if Dax is drawing because it's worth it in the end, and even in the middle. I figured it out what it's like, the flashing of his eyes when he's concentrating, a bit like an owl. I still find it hard to fight the racing palpitations from being under his watch. This was the second time in six years that this has happened, face to face, this time i managed almost entirely not to look away. The drawing is beautiful and probably means more to me than it does to him, which i will not herein explain, but i carry it with me. Maybe i can use it as reference to anyone that might be interested in seeing Dax's art....except for those two small paintings he doesn't know about, which are ancient! anyway, and this one's easier to carry and keep safe. -erin-" |

It kinda inspires me to draw people more often. Thanks for the portrait again, its going up on my website (course you will get credit)." |

I had 2 separate photos of my mom & dad when they had graduated college. I asked Dax to come up with a portrait of them together. I was pleasantly suprised! Dax not only captured the likeness of my parents, but he also managed to capture the 'essence' of them. I am so happy with how everything turned out! It will make a great present. Dax -- you're a talented artist! Good luck with your art!" |

VeredDrawn on September 22, 2004, at Barefoot Coffee Roasters, Cupertino, CA. Portrait resides with the subject, Cupertino, CA. "I am sitting on a high chair in the middle of a coffee shop on open mic night. There is a strange music playing in the background consisting of a man screaming about hangovers making sitting still for this portrait somewhat of a struggle. And then, of course, the general thoughts of "What kind of face should I be making for this?" "I have a weird nose and big ears" come up. Soon though, the music tunes out and my focus is not on my face, but on the artist's face. Watching someone else watching me so intently... A sense of intimacy occurs between subject and artist. The rolls reverse. An intensely euphoric moment. Then I see the offhand scribble of a signature and the miniature mirror image of myself gets handed to me. The loud screaming man tunes back in, and I am left with a portrait more beautiful than my current standing self. "I highly recommend it." |
