Portraits

The portraits displayed here are advertisement for commission portraiture. To answer some frequently asked questions about commissions: a classical portrait can easily take twelve hours of sitting time; alla prima oil is around six hours; a watercolor is about four. Pricing is on a sliding scale. It is very possible for me to paint a portrait using a photograph as a reference, but I need to be the one to take the photo in order to assure it's quality. I am also likely to charge more for that kind of painting, on account of how boring it can get.

Formal Portraiture - Little Portraits - Internet Profile Portraits

My interest in portraiture stems from a need to make functional paintings. Because portaits are not only a representation of a person's appearance and personality, but also a transcription of a conversation between the sitter and myself, I view them as something like documentary work.

I like portraits, too, because they are solidly connected to something that is real.
