Dax Tran-Caffee is a singer-songwriter, accordionist, and sound artist, most known for his work with the band Corpus Callosum (2001-present). Like the work of Tom Waits or Bright Eyes, Dax’s songs are honest observations of the comings and goings of life. Live shows are performed on accordion, while recordings feature a variety of instruments, including glass goblets, singing saw, classical guitar, ukulele, button box, junk metal, table settings, and the creaking of old buildings. Since 2001, Dax has been on bills with such notable acts as The Mountain Goats, Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof. In 2006 Corpus Callosum was awarded the Snow Ghost Sound Studios recording residency (Whitefish, MT), and were invited to perform at the Bleeding Edge Festival in Saratoga, CA (featuring Isis, Yo La Tengo, Matmos and Zeena Parkins). As a frontman and manager of Corpus Callosum, he has self-released two studio albums (“Strange Fruit” 2003, and “Machine Under Its Own Spell” 2005), three live albums (2003, 2004, and 2005), has been included on several compilations, and has just finished recording for an upcoming album. Corpus Callosum has received national airplay and review, including charting #1 at KUOI, Moscow, ID (8/8 and 8/22/05) and #2 at WNUR, Chicago, IL (8/23/05). Having recently moved from California to Chicago, Dax has started making field recordings and short sound art pieces, attends graduate school for Performance Art, and continues to perform with his accordion. He is currently working on fully integrating music and puppetry, while working as Music Director for the new modern dance company CORE Project. See also: Corpus Callosum Bio |
